I recommend watching each series first before watching the movies. You would get to see the evolution of Star Trek, from The Original Series to The Next Generation era to its current iteration of Discovery and Picard (with all the movies in between. Since you have never seen Star Trek at all, a chronological viewing from each release date would be amazing. The Animated Series (optional, but worth a watch if you like TOS and can get past the crappy animation) I'm bolding the movies to clear up some possible confusion: If you want to watch everything though, this is the order I generally recommend, which is pretty close to release order. Saying that the first two seasons of that show are hit and miss would be an understatement, but once it finds its footing it's one of the best science fiction shows ever. The Next Generation was my entry point, and I think that was the case for a lot of others. The Original Series is fun, but you have to be willing to laugh at a good amount of cheese to be able to fully appreciate it. It would probably give you an easy way in to the franchise. It's a very modern, exciting show with strong visuals and lots of action. Similarly, Enterprise becomes far more serialised in later seasons.Īlternatively, you could start with Discovery. It's more focused on characters, politics and war. TOS, TNG and Voyager are focused on exploration and adventure.ĭeep Space Nine should be watched from beginning to end for the best experience, and ideally after TNG because it picks up storylines from there. You could sample a few recommended episodes from TOS and TNG to get a feel for them.

The Next Generation is a fun and easy to watch TV show, though it doesn't find its footing until season 3. I think the original movies are a great starting place, with Star Trek II in particular being a great introduction. The Original Series is quite dated now and may be a difficult watch if you're not used to 1960s television. Star Trek is mostly episodic and can be watched in any order. HOWEVER this is not necessarily the best way to tackle things. Kelvin movies (Star Trek/Into Darkness/Beyond).If you want to be a completionist then release order is:
